Is SHEIN legit and safe? Who runs it, where it's from and its return policy

SHEIN describes itself as a global online fashion and lifestyle retailer. It also says it produces on demand, in small batches.

Each market has its own site, and each site's privacy policy names the company responsible for it. The group's own site, sheingroup.com, belongs to Roadget Business Pte. Ltd., of Singapore.

SHEIN started in China, according to the Financial Times. On February 24, 2026, at an event held by the Guangdong government, the founder, Xu Yangtian, said the province is where SHEIN's roots are, according to the BBC and The Straits Times. All three reports say the company's headquarters is in Singapore.

SHEIN sells far more than clothes. Some products are SHEIN's own brand, and some come from a global network of suppliers. On October 13, 2026, the menus of the US and UK sites had these sections:

• Women's, men's and kids' clothing, plus sizes (Curve), underwear and sleepwear, and beachwear on the UK site.
• Shoes, bags and luggage, jewellery and accessories.
• Beauty and health, baby and maternity, sports and outdoors.
• Home and living, home textiles, tools and home improvement, appliances, and office and school supplies.
• Cell phones and accessories, electronics, toys and games.
• Pet supplies and automotive. The US site also lists books and magazines, and food and drinks.

The UK menu also has a section called “Est. 3 Workdays”: the name refers to an estimated delivery in 3 working days.

SHEIN says its systems and controls are aligned with the ISO, NIST and PCI DSS standards, and says it does not sell customer data.

The privacy policy of your market's site explains, in a dedicated section, where the data of people who buy can be transferred. This article does not summarize that section: if it worries you, read it before you create an account.

To avoid fake sites, buy only on your market's official site (us.shein.com in the US, shein.co.uk in the UK) or in the SHEIN app downloaded from your phone's official app store.

• United States (us.shein.com): returns within 30 days of delivery.
• United Kingdom (shein.co.uk): a 14-day right to cancel by law, counted from receipt. Under SHEIN's own policy, most items can be returned up to 30 days after you receive them. Some items, such as lingerie, underwear and costume jewellery, can only be returned within those 14 days.

Import tax depends on the country: before you pay, check at checkout whether it is included in the total.

• That you are on your market's official site or in the official SHEIN app.
• The shipping cost and the delivery time on the order page.
• The import taxes and fees at checkout.
• The return deadline, and which items have a shorter one.
• Keep the order confirmation.

Yes, as long as you buy on your market's official site or in the official SHEIN app. According to their privacy policies, SHEIN US Services, LLC runs the US site and Infinite Styles Services Co., Limited the UK one, and SHEIN says it does not sell customer data.

Before you pay, check the shipping cost and delivery time on the order page, the import taxes at checkout and the return deadline, and keep the order confirmation. In the US you have up to 30 days from delivery to return; in the UK, 14 days by law and most items up to 30 days under SHEIN's policy.
